Dáithí Ó Sé Jokes His Son Will Soon Be Lifting Him to Put the Star on the Christmas Tree

Dáithí Ó Sé is gearing up for a typical irish Christmas Day with his wife Rita Talty and tween son Ógie, with some new traditions mixed in with the old.
The RTÉ presenter, 49, and his family have a few non-negotiable Christmas traditions, like Christmas markets and opening some presents on Christmas Eve, with one of the more adorable including an ongoing father-son activity.
Dáithí explained that every year, he lifts his now 11-year-old son Ógie up to put the star on top of the Christmas tree. However, with his son only a few inches shorter than him at this stage, it’s proving more and more challenging!
Speaking to EVOKE, as an AIB ambassador to champion the GOAL Mile for 2025, Dáithí revealed: ‘I lift Ogie up to put on the star or the angel on the tree every year. It was very easy to do it up until maybe this year… he’ll be lifting me up next year, I think!
‘I’d say I’m not even a foot taller than him at this stage.’
Dáithí’s American wife rita, who he met while she represented New Jersey at the Rose of Tralee festival in 2008, has brought some of her taste of home to Christmas in Ireland.
The Rose of Tralee presenter said: ‘The house is screaming Christmas, that’s the American thing she brought over. Before it was just kind of decorations on the tree,but now she goes full on USA,with lights and everything and so that’s all part of it.’
A dedicated Kerry GAA supporter is eagerly anticipating his 50th birthday next year, with a unique plan to celebrate after the All-Ireland final. He is hoping a victory for Kerry will allow him to share the occasion with a very special guest: The Sam Maguire Cup.

In addition to his sporting passion, the supporter has also been focused on his health. He recently shared that he has lost a meaningful amount of weight, stating he is “down over a stone and a half from where I was this time last year.” This equates to approximately 21-24 pounds (9.5-11kg).
