Dave Grohl “Turned Everything Off” After Admitting to Infidelity

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has opened up about the emotional fallout following his admission to fathering a child outside of his marriage to Jordyn Blum. The revelation, initially shared on social media in September 2024, prompted a period of intense self-reflection and a retreat from public life for the musician.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Grohl described the need to disconnect from external pressures. “I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of focusing on his immediate surroundings and shielding himself from overwhelming public scrutiny. “Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius. Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”

Songwriting as a Coping Mechanism

Grohl revealed that songwriting became a crucial outlet for processing the situation. “I have to be perfectly honest, writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough,” he explained. While acknowledging the public interest, he also asserted his need to maintain a degree of privacy. “As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem.”

He further elaborated on the necessity of self-evaluation during this challenging time. “But I think that for many reasons, I wound up in a place that I needed to stop and sit with myself, and re-evaluate myself. It’s an ongoing process.”

Foo Fighters’ Upcoming Album and Grohl’s History

The Foo Fighters are preparing to release their 12th studio album, Your Favourite Toy, in April 2026. Grohl and Blum have been married since 2003 and share three daughters: Violet (18), Harper (15), and Ophelia (10).

Grohl was previously married to Jennifer Youngblood from 1994 to 1997, and has acknowledged that infidelity contributed to their divorce. He rose to prominence as the drummer for Nirvana from 1990 until the band’s dissolution in 1994 following the death of Kurt Cobain.

Foo Fighters recently performed at Other Voices in St James’s Church in Daingean Uí Chúis, Ireland, on February 22nd. The performance, featuring tracks from Your Favourite Toy alongside fan favorites, will air on RTÉ2 on Easter Monday, April 6th, and will be available on RTÉ Player worldwide.
