Dawid Szwarga Relieved of Duties at Arka Gdynia Amidst Relegation Battle
Arka Gdynia has parted ways with head coach Dawid Szwarga, the club announced on Wednesday, March 22, 2026. The decision comes after a disappointing 0-3 defeat against Korona Kielce, which left Arka balancing on the brink of relegation from the Polish Ekstraklasa.
Szwarga, who previously served as an assistant to Marek Papszun at Raków Częstochowa, took the helm at Arka in December 2024, inheriting a team at the bottom of the league table. He guided the team to improved form, achieving a mid-table position in the current season, but recent results have plunged Arka back into danger. They currently sit with 30 points, level with Legia Warszawa and one point ahead of Widzew Łódź, both of whom are also fighting to avoid relegation.
A Difficult Decision
The club stated that the decision to relieve Szwarga of his duties was made after a meeting between the coach, the club’s management board, main shareholder Marcin Gruchała and director Nikitovic. Discussions included both sporting matters and personal circumstances affecting Szwarga.
“As a result of these arrangements, both sides agreed that in the current circumstances, the best solution would be to end the cooperation,” the club announced.
Assistant coach Tomasz Włodarek will lead the first team training sessions in the interim.
Looking Ahead
Arka Gdynia will face Zagłębie Lubin, currently second in the Ekstraklasa with 41 points, on April 7th in their next match. The international break provides a window for the club to search for a permanent replacement for Szwarga.
