Community Mourns the Passing of Peter Fahy of Loughrea

The community of Loughrea, County Galway, is in mourning following the death of Peter Fahy, who passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. A well-known figure in the region, Mr. Fahy was in his 90th year at the time of his passing, which occurred while he was under the care of the staff at the Galway Clinic.

A Life Remembered

Peter Fahy was a resident of Coscorrig, Gort Road, in Loughrea. His roots in the area were deep, having previously resided in Caherpeak, Kilcolgan, and being well-remembered by many as the proprietor of “Fahy’s Mace” in Westbridge, Loughrea.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (née McInerney), and a wide circle of family. His children, Majella and Dermot, along with his son-in-law Robert Reilly and daughter-in-law Aine, are joined in their grief by his grandchildren—Shauna, Ciaran, Darragh, Aoibhe, and Lilly—and his great-grandchildren, Luke and AnnaSophia. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Peronard and Anna Murray, and his brother, Martin Fahy.

Mr. Fahy was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Delia Fahy, and his sister, Della Ryan.

Funeral Arrangements

The family has announced that Peter will lie in repose at Kilboys Funeral Home in Loughrea on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. To 7:00 p.m. The funeral cortege is scheduled to arrive at St. Brendan’s Cathedral, Loughrea, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, for a Requiem Mass at 2:30 p.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Loughrea.

For those unable to attend in person, the funeral Mass will be streamed live online.
