Dietary Utility Worker Position Available at Virginia Beach Veterans Care Center

The Virginia Department of Veterans Services is seeking a dependable and hardworking Dishwasher/Utility Worker to join the Dietary Services team at the Jones & Cabacoy Veterans Care Center (JCVCC) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This role is essential for maintaining a clean, safe and efficient kitchen environment, supporting high-quality meal service for resident veterans.

Job Responsibilities

The Dishwasher/Utility Worker will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

• Loading, operating, and unloading commercial dish machines safely and efficiently.
• Inspecting dishes for cleanliness and rewashing items as needed.
• Maintaining clean and organized dish racks, shelves, and storage areas.
• Sweeping and mopping dish room floors throughout the shift.
• Emptying trash and replacing liners.
• Cleaning sinks, counters, and prep surfaces in the dish area.
• Setting up and maintaining hydration stations, lobby coffee and pastry areas, war room coffee stations, and orientation carts.
• Cleaning and sanitizing all assigned stations, equipment, and kitchen carts at the end of each shift.
• Breaking down and cleaning kitchen equipment as assigned.
• Assisting with general kitchen cleaning during sluggish periods.
• Restocking clean dishes, utensils, and cookware to the appropriate stations.
• Helping receive, unpack, and store deliveries.
• Communicating low stock of dish supplies (racks, soap, sanitizer, gloves, etc.).

Qualifications

Candidates must:

• Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines (SERV Safe standards).
• Maintain proper chemical usage and dilution levels.
• Report any equipment issues or safety hazards immediately.
• Keep walkways and work areas free of clutter and spills.
• Complete and record daily temperature logs.
• Deck brush and deep clean kitchen floors twice per week.

Compensation and Schedule

The hiring range for this position is $16.00 – $17.00 per hour (Pay Band 1). The schedule is rotating, with shifts from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm and/or 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, five days a week, including every other weekend.
