Samsung is bringing AirDrop functionality to its Galaxy S26 series through an integration with the Quick Share feature, addressing a long-standing pain point for users in mixed-device environments. The rollout begins today, March 23, 2026, in Korea, with expansion planned for North America, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, including Taiwan.

Bridging the Ecosystem Gap

For years, seamlessly transferring files between Android devices and iPhones has required workarounds like cloud storage, email, or third-party applications. Samsung’s implementation, mirroring a similar feature introduced by Google on its Pixel devices in 2025, aims to simplify this process. This native interoperability is particularly beneficial for organizations adopting a “Choose Your Own Device” (CYOD) policy, reducing reliance on potentially less secure third-party transfer tools.

How it Works: Quick Share and AirDrop Interoperability

The connection between Galaxy S26 devices and iPhones is established peer-to-peer using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct, ensuring data doesn’t pass through an external server. To utilize the feature, users need to:

• Enable the “Share with Apple devices” option within the Galaxy S26’s Quick Share settings.
• Ensure the receiving Apple device has AirDrop set to “Everyone” mode for a period of 10 minutes.
• Hold both devices in close proximity to initiate the Bluetooth handshake.

Users will need to ensure they have the latest versions of Google Play Services and the Quick Share app (version 2026.3) installed to access this functionality.

Expanding the Android Ecosystem

Samsung’s move follows Google’s lead in expanding AirDrop-like functionality within the Android ecosystem. Oppo has also recently announced plans to add support for this feature to its devices before the end of March 2026, suggesting a broader industry trend towards improved cross-platform compatibility.

While initially available on the Galaxy S26 series (S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra), Samsung has indicated that AirDrop compatibility will be extended to additional Galaxy devices at a later date, though a specific timeline has not been announced.
