Ukraine Peace Talks Set for February 1st in Abu Dhabi

Negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine are set to continue wiht the next round of trilateral talks scheduled for February 1st in Abu Dhabi. According to statements made by a state secretary, while the issues remain “very complicated,” progress has been made in narrowing the scope of discussion to a central topic.

The upcoming talks will involve representatives from the United states, Russia, and Ukraine. However, it has been confirmed that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Wittkoff and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who were involved in previous discussions, will not be participating in this round.

A key point of contention in the US-led peace talks centers on Russia’s demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from a portion of the donetsk region currently under Ukrainian control.Russia has been unable to capture this territory, and its surrender would perhaps allow for further Russian advances westward, due to established Ukrainian defensive positions. The situation remains fluid, and the outcome of the Abu Dhabi talks is currently uncertain.
