Dr. Thad Waites Receives American College of Cardiology Presidential Citation Award

Dr. Waites expressed his humility and gratitude, noting the ACC has been his “professional home” for many years. His involvement deepened over time, evolving into a valued professional family . He previously served as Mississippi ACC Governor and President of the ACC Mississippi Chapter.

The Presidential Citation award came as a surprise to Dr. Waites, representing the pinnacle of his professional journey within the ACC . He noted the special significance of receiving the award during the presidency of a close friend with ties to his hometown of Waynesboro, Mississippi.

Focus on Rural Cardiovascular Care

Dr. Waites is particularly proud of his recent work in establishing the Thad and Gerry Waites Rural Cardiovascular Research Fellowship. This fellowship aims to expand access to specialized heart care in underserved communities. The first fellow participating in the program will be introduced during the ACC’s 75th Annual Scientific Session & Expo in March . He believes strengthening the pipeline of cardiologists in rural areas is essential to improving patient outcomes and ensuring access to high-quality care .
