HC Elbflorenz and SC DHfK Lead 2. Bundesliga Standings
Handball fans in Saxony are watching a fierce local battle at the top of the 2. Bundesliga standings, where HC Elbflorenz Dresden and Bundesliga-relegated SC DHfK Leipzig occupy the top two positions. Dresden sits at the summit following a 38-28 victory against Eulen Ludwigshafen, which pushed the club’s goal difference to plus 64 after eight matches. SC DHfK Leipzig holds second place with a plus 22 goal difference after securing a 37-33 win against promoted club Hamm.
President Uwe Saegeling Outlines Dresden Goals
HC Elbflorenz president Uwe Saegeling stated clear ambitions for the Saxony club in an interview with MDR. We definitely want to finish first ahead of Leipzig,
Saegeling said. If both go up, that would be super. It would be the best constellation for Saxon handball.
Dresden currently shares the same number of points as Leipzig, though Dresden lost the direct home derby against their rivals 35-37 earlier in the season.
Managing Director Karsten Günther Reacts to Rivalry
SC DHfK managing director Karsten Günther addressed the standings and the local rivalry in light of Leipzig’s lone defeat, a 26-27 home loss against Dormagen. A nice constellation when the Saxon clubs lead this league,
Günther said. That’s a cool picture, on any case. I keep my fingers crossed for HC Elbflorenz that they make it this season too. But it is important that we look at ourselves and manage it ourselves at least just as well or even a bit better. Leipzig on one and Dresden on two – that would be optimal.
Frank Carstens aims to guide SC DHfK back into the top-tier Handball-Bundesliga.
Upcoming Away Fixtures and Tight Pursuit
Both leading clubs face difficult away matches on the next matchday, with Dresden traveling to face Ferndorf and Leipzig visiting Dessau-Roßlau. The chasing pack remains close behind, as Hagen, Lübeck, and Potsdam trail the two promotion spots by only two points.
