Paramount+ confirmed the renewal of the series on June 24. According to Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, the show’s ability to build upon the established legacy of Yellowstone while crafting a distinct identity was central to the decision to move forward with a second season.
While an official release date for the second season has not been set, industry observers point to the production timeline of the debut season as a potential indicator. Filming for the first season commenced in August 2025, leading to a premiere in May 2026. Benjamin Cavell has been tapped to take over as showrunner for season two. Cavell brings extensive experience, having previously contributed to programs such as Justified, Homeland, and SEAL Team. Addressing the transition during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cole Hauser noted that adapting to personnel changes is a standard part of the television production process, while Kelly Reilly expressed pride in the collaborative effort of the inaugural season.
