Elias Salomonsson Scores First NHL Goal in Jets’ Overtime Loss to Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 in overtime on February 27, 2026, at the Honda Center. Despite the loss, Jets defenseman Elias Salomonsson celebrated a milestone, scoring his first NHL goal.

Salomonsson’s Historic Goal

Salomonsson, 21, scored at 1:27 of the third period, extending the Jets’ lead to 3-1. This goal marked his debut point in the NHL and made him the fifth-youngest defenseman in Jets (and Atlanta Thrashers) franchise history to score a goal. “We had a good exchange in the offensive zone there before and won the puck back,” Salomonsson said after the game. “I stepped right into the shot and was so happy to see it go in. It was special.”

Growing Comfort at the NHL Level

Selected by the Jets in the second round (55th overall) of the 2022 NHL draft, Salomonsson is in his second season in North America. He has been steadily gaining confidence and ice time. Prior to his NHL debut, he recorded nine points (one goal and eight assists) in 29 games with the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. NHL.com
