Elijah Wood to Host Lord of the Rings Rave Experience as DJ

Elijah Wood, best known for his iconic role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is set to host a unique DJ set billed as a “full-blown Lord of the Rings rave experience.” The event will take place on May 31st at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, Colorado.

From Frodo to the DJ Booth

Wood famously portrayed Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), and reprised the role in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) [IMDb]. He is also slated to potentially reprise the role in the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum [IGN].

Beyond acting, Wood has a deep passion for music. He launched his own indie record label, Simian Records, in 2005, signing bands such as The Apples in Stereo and Heloise & The Savoir Faire. He has also appeared in music videos for artists including The Cranberries, Beastie Boys, and Danko Jones.

Wooden Wisdom: A Vinyl-Focused DJ Duo

Wood performs as one half of the DJ duo Wooden Wisdom, alongside Zach Cowie. They have been performing together for 15 years, crafting “genre-defying vinyl sets that weave together rare gems and beloved classics, with lots of 70’s and 80’s disco” [IGN]. Wood has clarified that he does not perform under the alias “DJ Frodo,” debunking rumors that surfaced years ago during an interview on Seth Meyers’ talk display [IGN].

A Middle-earth Rave

The upcoming Denver event is described as a “fantasy-themed event like no other” and encourages attendees to approach dressed in costume. “Costumes are encouraged, so dust off your cloaks, and sharpen your elvish ears,” reads the event description [IGN]. Tickets for the show are currently sold out.

Wood’s Continued Connection to Middle-earth

This DJ set follows Wood’s recent headlining set at Fan Expo Denver, celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings. Wood has also expressed a desire to remain the definitive Frodo Baggins, stating he doesn’t want anyone else to play the role “as long as I’m alive and able” [IGN]. This sentiment echoes that of Orlando Bloom, who has stated he would “hate” to spot another actor portray Legolas [IGN].

The role of Aragorn will be recast in The Hunt for Gollum, as Viggo Mortensen will not return, with de-aging technology deemed unsuitable. The film, directed by Andy Serkis and written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou, is scheduled for release in December 2027, with Peter Jackson serving as a producer.
