Andy Murray Backs Emma Raducanu’s Coaching Choice with Mark Petchey
Emma Raducanu has brought Mark Petchey back into her coaching setup on an informal basis as she prepares for the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament, a move supported by former world number one Andy Murray. The reunion comes after Raducanu parted ways with Francisco Roig following the Australian Open in January and continues to work with Alexis Canter.
Raducanu Seeks Familiar Guidance
Raducanu is seeking support from Petchey, who previously coached her between March and July last year. She expressed feeling uncomfortable with her game and has already noticed improvements while working with Petchey again. “I work really well when I’m with him,” Raducanu said. “I’m really happy to be on the court and just really enjoy it overall. I’m not sure, going forward, what it will look like.” Source
Murray’s History with Petchey
This isn’t the first time Petchey’s coaching has been linked to success for top players. He previously coached Andy Murray at the start of his career, guiding him to his first ATP title in February 2006. Although, their partnership was short-lived, lasting less than a year.
Murray’s 2006 Comments on the Split
When Murray and Petchey parted ways in April 2006, Murray stated, “Mark has been a large part of my success in the last 10 months and we had a great run together but we have had a difference of opinion regarding some aspects of my game.” He added, “It was a very difficult decision and based solely on the development of my tennis.” Source

Petchey’s current arrangement with Raducanu is described as ad hoc, with him providing support on an informal basis. He has been on court regularly with Raducanu this week at Indian Wells. Source He also holds a day job with the Tennis Channel, which brings him to Indian Wells anyway. Source
