Emma Raducanu and Coach Francis Roig Part Ways Following Australian Open Exit
British tennis star Emma Raducanu has announced the end of her coaching partnership with Francis Roig following her second-round defeat at the Australian Open. The split marks another change in Raducanu’s relatively short professional career, as she now seeks her tenth coach since turning professional.
Raducanu lost to Anastasia Potapova in straight sets at Melbourne Park,concluding her campaign at the tournament. The partnership with Roig, a coach with a distinguished record including contributing to 16 of Rafael Nadal’s 22 Grand Slam titles, began in August 2022.
Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, Raducanu wrote, “Thank you for our time together. You have been more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent together on and off the court.” She further clarified that the decision to separate was mutual, adding, “While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know I am very grateful for all you have taught me and fond of our time shared.”
The frequent changes in Raducanu’s coaching team have been a subject of discussion within the tennis world, as she continues to search for stability and guidance to build upon her stunning 2021 US Open victory. The search for a new coach is now underway as Raducanu prepares for the upcoming season.
