Emmett J. Scanlan Mourns the Loss of His ‘Brother’ Georgy
Hollyoaks and Peaky Blinders actor Emmett J. Scanlan, 47, is grieving the death of a close friend he referred to as his “brother,” Georgy. Scanlan shared the heartbreaking news on Tuesday via an emotional Instagram post, prompting an outpouring of support from fans and fellow actors.
Emotional Tribute and Support from Colleagues
In a heartfelt message, Scanlan wrote, “Fly free brother Georgy, you gorgeous sublime angel… I’ll miss the [expletive] bones of ye…” The post quickly garnered attention and condolences from the entertainment community.
Scanlan’s wife, actress Claire Cooper, also honored Georgy with a touching tribute, stating, “Fly high, dear George. Like we talked about, the veil is so thin …closer than we think. Call on us sometime and let us know how you’re doing. Until then, rest effortless, dear one, and enjoy that healing pool that awaits you. Thank you for being so dear to my husband and me. You will always be loved.”
Among those offering support were Dermot O’Leary, Gaby Roslin, Anna Friel, and Lucy Jo Hudson, as well as Scanlan’s former Hollyoaks co-star, Jamie Lomas.
Back on Set Following the Loss
Despite his grief, Scanlan returned to perform on Wednesday, filming season two of the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand. He plays the head of security for the Harrigan crime family, led by Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan. The series also stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza and Dame Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan.
MobLand, created by Ronan Bennett and executive produced by Guy Ritchie and Jez Butterworth, premiered last year and was renewed for a second series in June 2025. Filming for the new season recently involved a large-scale stunt involving a warehouse fire near the River Thames.
