SUNY Geneseo Dominates Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Championships
The SUNY Geneseo women’s swimming and diving team showcased exceptional performance at the 2026 Empire 8 Championships, held at the Webster Aquatic Center from February 18-21. Junior Alex Sotek and freshman Morgan Davey were recognized with individual championship honors, solidifying Geneseo’s position as a leading force in the conference.
Alex Sotek Named Swimmer of the Championship Meet
Alex Sotek earned the title of Empire 8 Swimmer of the Championship Meet after a stellar showing. She secured individual victories in the 50-yard freestyle (23.21 seconds), the 100-yard freestyle (51.93 seconds), and the 100-yard butterfly (56.28 seconds in the finals, 55.52 in the prelims). Sotek also played a crucial role in the team’s success in relay events, contributing to winning teams in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays, as well as the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Notably, the 400-yard medley relay team set a new Empire 8 Championship and overall record with a time of 1:42.82, achieving an NCAA “B” cut time. Empire 8
Morgan Davey Excels in Diving Events
Freshman Morgan Davey was awarded the Empire 8 Diver of the Championship Meet title. She won the 1-meter diving event on Thursday with a score of 462.00 and finished as the runner-up in the 3-meter event on Saturday, achieving a score of 465.40 in the finals. Empire 8
Weekly Honors and Upcoming Awards
