Enchanted Rock State Natural Area to Host Night Hikes Focused on Geology and Stargazing

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area will host several night hikes in the coming months, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the park’s geology and enjoy the night sky. These guided hikes, led by park rangers and volunteers, will take place on the summit of Enchanted Rock.

Upcoming Hikes and Registration

A “Senses on the Summit” night hike is scheduled, and a “Black Moon Geology Night Hike” was held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM CDT. Ranger Hannah Pickens and volunteer Peter will guide participants through the geological features of Enchanted Rock under the stars.

Hikes are capped at 20 guests, and pre-registration is required. Interested individuals should email Hannah Pickens to reserve their spot. Hannah Pickens is an Interpretive Park Ranger at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

Park Admission and What to Bring

Park admission is required, but free for those with a Texas State Parks Pass. Day passes can be purchased in advance on the Texas State Parks website.

Participants are advised to bring water, red lights, headlamps, bug spray, comfortable hiking shoes, and layers of clothing. Texas Parks & Wildlife Department recommends preparing for varying temperatures.

Location

The hikes will meet at the Gazebo at the Summit Trailhead within Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, located at 16710 Ranch Road 965, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
