Search of Epstein’s Zorro Ranch Resumes Amid Renewed Scrutiny

STANLEY, NM – New Mexico state investigators are conducting a search of the Zorro Ranch, formerly owned by the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of previously sealed FBI files that prompted renewed examination of potential criminal activity at the property. The search, which began Monday, is being conducted with the cooperation of the current owners, the family of Texas politician Don Huffines.

Background on the Zorro Ranch

Rancho de San Rafael, known as Zorro Ranch, is a 7,622-acre property located approximately 30 miles south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, near Stanley. Epstein purchased the ranch in 1993 from former New Mexico Governor Bruce King and developed it into a secluded estate, complete with a mansion and a private runway.

Reopened Investigation and Search

New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez reopened the investigation into the ranch last month, citing revelations contained within the recently unsealed FBI files. The initial state investigation was closed in 2019 at the request of federal prosecutors in New York. The current search aims to determine if the property was used in connection with sex abuse and sex trafficking.

Allegations of Abuse at the Ranch

Accusers of Epstein, including the late Virginia Giuffre, have alleged that they were abused at the Zorro Ranch. Though, Epstein was never charged with any crimes related to the property during his lifetime. The latest release of Epstein-related files includes unsubstantiated claims, including an email from a purported former ranch employee offering videos of alleged abuse in exchange for Bitcoin, and claims of bodies being buried on the property.

Current Ownership and Cooperation

The Zorro Ranch was sold by Epstein’s estate in 2023 to the family of Don Huffines, a Republican candidate for Texas state comptroller. The Huffines family is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Ongoing Legislative Review

In addition to the Attorney General’s investigation, New Mexico state legislators have established a bipartisan commission with subpoena powers to further examine past activities at the ranch. The commission is intended to provide a comprehensive review of the allegations surrounding the property.

Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the area and refrain from flying drones nearby to avoid interfering with the law enforcement operation. The New Mexico Department of Justice has stated it will continue to provide updates to the public and follow the facts as they emerge.
