European Stocks dip Ahead of U.S. Jobs Data

European stocks fell in early trading on Tuesday as investors were cautious before key U.S. jobs data was released. The dollar stayed near a two-month low.

Investors are waiting for U.S. jobs reports for October and November. These reports were delayed because of the U.S. government shutdown.

The jobs data could change what people expect the Federal Reserve to do with interest rates next year. The Fed’s recent comments about rate cuts weren’t as strong as some expected, leading people to believe rate cuts might happen later, in 2026.

Stock markets in Asia also fell. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell to its lowest level in three weeks. China’s industrial production growth slowed to a 15-month low in November.

European markets opened lower but then moved slightly higher. As of 0956 GMT, the STOXX 600 was down 0.1% SXXP, London’s FTSE 100 was down 0.3% CURRENCYCOM:UK100, and the German DAX was down 0.5% European Stocks Drop Amid US Jobs Data UncertaintyDAX. Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine moving forward caused European defense stocks to fall. However, experts believe stock markets will reach record highs in 2025, with the STOXX 600 increasing by 14.8 percent overall.

The MSCI world stock index fell 0.3 percent EURONEXT:IACWI and has increased 19.8 percent overall this year.
