A new remix of the Latvian song “Pilni vižņu mani mati” by DJ and producer [Ex] da Bass, too known as Mareks Dainis, is breathing fresh life into the 12-year-ancient track. The remix blends the original song with the energetic sounds of Afro house music, a collaboration between the Imantas Ziedoņas Foundation’s “Viegli” project and singer Māra Upmane-Holšteine.

“[Ex] da Bass shared, “The idea for a brand new sound for this legendary song with the words of Imants Ziedonis came to me one early Monday morning, on my way home after an event… I immediately sent a message to Mara [Upmanei-Holšteinei] followed by the reply that the idea is very welcome and worth implementing!” Finding the original vocals proved challenging, but Upmane-Holšteine successfully located them in the archives.

Positive Reception and Artistic Reflection

Renards Kaupers, after hearing the finished remix, praised the new version, expressing delight that the “Viegli” foundation supported the project and that it might introduce the song to new listeners. Māra Upmane-Holšteine herself reflected on the remix, stating, “I think it’s cool that the song continues to live its life outside of the feelings of its original version, has gained a new interpretation and sound, stepping into a completely different genre, environment, and audience.” She also noted the song retains its “mantric feeling” whereas embracing the energy of Afro house.
