2027 F1 Season Schedule and Opening Rounds
The 2027 campaign opens with a four-day pre-season test from February 24 to 27 in Sakhir, Bahrain, according to the FIA World Motor Sport Council. The championship stays in the Middle East for the opening two races, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix from March 12 to 14, which also serves as the year’s first sprint weekend. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah follows a week later from March 19 to 21.
The calendar maintains 24 Grands Prix while altering event sequences and geographic grouping to streamline transport logistics for teams. Following the Middle East rounds, the series moves to the Asia-Pacific region with Melbourne hosting from April 2 to 4, Suzuka from April 9 to 11, and Shanghai from April 16 to 18. Australia and Japan feature sprint formats, while China runs a standard Grand Prix.
Return of Portugal and Turkey
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão returns to host the Portuguese Grand Prix from June 18 to 20, according to Formula 1 releases. A two-year agreement covering 2027 and 2028 with the Portuguese government, Turismo de Portugal, and promoter Parkalgar was secured. The 4.6-kilometer Algarve circuit last hosted F1 races in 2020 and 2021.
The Turkish Grand Prix returns to Istanbul Park from October 1 to 3, positioned between Baku and Singapore, according to the FIA and Formula 1. A five-year agreement running from 2027 through 2031 in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) was announced. The 5.33-kilometer Istanbul circuit features its signature multi-apex Turn 8.
Expansion to Ten Sprint Weekends
The 2027 season expands the sprint format from six to ten weekends, marking the highest total since the concept’s introduction in 2021, according to Formula 1 data. Sprints will take place in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
Monaco hosts a sprint weekend for the first time on its street circuit. The schedule places sprint qualifying on Friday, the sprint race on Saturday morning, and the main grand prix qualifying later that afternoon, according to Formula 1.
