FBI Joins Search for Driver Who Killed Fort Bend County Deputy Kenneth Lewis
HOUSTON – The FBI is now assisting the Houston Police Department in the search for the driver responsible for the death of Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Lewis, who was struck and killed although helping a stranded motorist last month. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Deputy Lewis, 40, died days after being hit by a vehicle on February 21, 2026, while assisting a driver on Interstate 10 near Eldridge Parkway in west Houston . He was in his personal vehicle when the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. .
Details of the Incident and Investigation
According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Lewis was providing assistance to a motorist who was stranded on the freeway when he was struck by a fleeing vehicle . The vehicle involved immediately left the scene.
The suspect vehicle is described as a black or dark-colored Honda sedan . Authorities have not yet released further details about the vehicle or the driver.
Remembering Deputy Lewis
Deputy Lewis was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated and selfless law enforcement officer. “Deputy Lewis demonstrated the very best of law enforcement. His selflessness, dedication, and commitment to serving others reflect the core values of our office and the profession he proudly served,” the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office stated on social media .
Funeral services for Deputy Lewis were held on March 6, 2026, at Second Baptist Church – West Campus in Houston . A full police honors ceremony took place following the service.
