Francisco Moura had a game to forget at Dragão. Outside of Francesco Farioli’s initial options for the derby with Sporting, the FC Porto left-back was brought on in the 84th minute and, in compensation, committed a foul for a penalty, a move that led to the draw — Luis Suárez failed to convert (Diogo Costa saved), but redeemed himself on the rebound.
The player was visibly devastated by the failure, he was comforted by staff of the blue and whites, however some fans did not have the same condescension. Previous publications by the defender on social media were the target of critical comments and attacks on Francisco Moura, for the decisive move.
“Do you want to give us joy? Please leave this club”, “You crazy ballerina…”, “More is required bro, this isn’t just getting paid at the end of the month! This isn’t Famalicão, don’t wake up… you’ve been here long enough to know what our club represents. Many dream of being in your shoes, so start to appreciate it”, were some of the reactions.
«Childhood! It’s not the first or second time!”, wrote another user, alluding to the responsibility for the first goal against Casa Pia. «Useless player, big s…», «Weak», «Street», «You could have used your body to intercept the ball, but you had to open your arm… For God’s sake», were other comments.
However, there were also demonstrations of support. «The only person who doesn’t like sports is capable of coming here and insulting an athlete who must already have his head in the mud for making a mistake…. Is anyone infallible? It’s a mistake that shouldn’t be made in a game like this, much less during the game, it’s true…. But treating someone like this because they made a mistake seems unreasonable to me…. As Porto fans, we have to know how to stand by our friends when things go wrong, not just when they are heroes!”, it read, as well as: “Leave him alone” and “Regardless of the mistake, it is regrettable for people to come to the boy’s page and insult him.”
