An industrial fire broke out at an energy supply facility within the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, triggering a Level 1 response from local firefighting authorities. The incident, reported at approximately 8:55 a.m., involved an accumulation of wood chips stored inside a fuel building.
Industrial Fire Response in Dangjin
Fire crews deployed all available equipment and personnel from the local station under a Level 1 emergency designation to combat the blaze. According to emergency responders, eight workers were present inside the facility when the fire started near the fuel section, accompanied by reported explosion sounds. All eight workers evacuated safely on their own, and no casualties were reported.
Firefighters required approximately four and a half hours to bring the major flames under control. Operations were complicated by an estimated 800 tons of wood chips—created by shredding timber—stored at the site, which fueled the fire and slowed down suppression efforts.
Gas Leak and Church Fire Incidents
In a separate incident on the same day, a compressed natural gas (CNG) leak occurred from a parked commuter bus in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province. The leak was reported around 12:20 p.m. along a roadside in Daeso-myeon and was attributed to a broken valve. The local fire department and Eumseong County officials restricted traffic on nearby roads for over two hours while conducting emergency safety measures, concluding the operation with no injuries.
Separately, a fire broke out on a church iron tower in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Five occupants inside the church evacuated safely as firefighters extinguished the flames within an hour and forty minutes. Authorities are currently investigating the exact causes of both the Dangjin industrial fire and the Seoul church fire.
