The Indo-Pacific Forum operates as a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing connectivity, resilience, security, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region. Founded in 2022, the organization emerged from a partnership between its Founding Chair and CEO, Dr. Kenneth R. Weinstein, and the late Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.
Leadership and Institutional Background
Before launching the Indo-Pacific Forum, Dr. Kenneth R. Weinstein served for fifteen years as the CEO of the Hudson Institute, a think tank dedicated to promoting U.S. international leadership and global engagement. During his tenure at the Hudson Institute, Weinstein guided the organization through a period of growth while producing policy contributions centered on global security. His career includes presidential appointments on federal commissions under four different U.S. presidents. These roles include chairing the U.S. Agency for Global Media and its affiliate boards—Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia, and the Middle East Broadcasting Network—as well as serving on the Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations.
Global Engagement and Credentials
Dr. Weinstein’s diplomatic and professional background encompasses advisory work with policymakers and corporate stakeholders throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In 2020, he received a nomination to serve as the United States Ambassador to Japan, earning unanimous bipartisan backing from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Academically, Weinstein holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University, a post-graduate degree (D.E.A.) in Soviet Studies from Sciences Po, and a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities from the University of Chicago. His international honors include recognition as a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des arts et des lettres from the French Ministry of Culture and the Foreign Minister’s Commendation from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
