Two-Vehicle Collision on King Street
On Monday, March 3, 2026, King Street was closed in both directions between Courtland and Montford Avenues following a two-vehicle collision. The Charleston Police Department is investigating the incident, which resulted in one driver being hospitalized with unknown injuries. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes during the closure.
Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash
Prior to the recent collision, a fatal auto-pedestrian crash occurred on King Street on Monday, December 15, 2025. According to reports, a car exiting a parking lot at 1227 King St. Struck an adult pedestrian crossing the driveway. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver was interviewed, and the Charleston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. This incident marked the seventh auto-pedestrian related fatality investigated by the department in 2025.

An officer-involved shooting also took place on King Street on November 21, 2024, at 653 King Street. The Charleston Police Department released a Critical Incident Briefing Video detailing the event, including 911 calls, radio traffic, maps, and body-worn camera footage.
Historical Incident on King Street
On March 2, 1979, Charleston Police Department Patrolman Charles Alvin Snider was on duty on King Street when a gunshot was fired. Snider was fifty-two years old and fourteen months from retirement at the time.
