Flipkart Trims Workforce Amid IPO Preparations

E-commerce major Flipkart has reduced its workforce by approximately 250-300 employees following its annual performance review, according to sources familiar with the matter. This represents roughly 1.5% to 2% of the company’s total workforce of around 20,000 employees Freepressjournal, Financial Express.

Workforce Reduction Details

The job cuts span multiple departments and employee levels. Flipkart stated that the reductions are a standard part of its annual performance review process. “Flipkart conducts regular performance reviews aligned with clearly defined expectations. As part of this process, a small percentage of employees may transition from the organisation. We are supporting affected employees with transition support,” the company said in a statement Rediff Moneynews.

Strategic Restructuring and Leadership Changes

Despite the workforce reduction, Flipkart continues to hire senior-level executives as it prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO). Recent appointments include Somnath Das as VP, Supply Chain; Digbijay Mishra as VP, Corporate Communications; Vipin Kapooria as VP, Business Finance; Yogita Shanbhag as VP, Human Resources; and Amer Hussain as VP, Supply Chain for its grocery and quick commerce businesses Rediff Moneynews.

The company has likewise appointed Jason Chappel as vice president and group controller, and Dan Neary to its board of directors, strengthening its leadership and governance capabilities ahead of the IPO Rediff Moneynews.

Financial Performance

Flipkart India reported a consolidated loss of Rs 5,189 crore in FY25, widening from Rs 4,248.3 crore in the previous financial year, despite a 17% increase in revenue Rediff Moneynews. Legal and Structural Changes
