A healthy baby was born in December. Tiffany and Steven were experiencing great happiness, but along with it came a shock. “The newborn exhibited the physical appearance of a racially non-Caucasian infant,” the couple’s lawsuit, quoted by the newspaper, reads The New York Post.
The couple developed a “strong emotional bond that continues to grow in intensity” with the child during the pregnancy, and the couple are willing to raise the baby girl, the documentary further states. “They fell in love with her,” said their attorney, John Scarola.
“It’s a joy to raise a beautiful, healthy baby girl who we love more than words can express,” confirmed Tiffany and Steven. However, they also feel a “moral obligation” to find the child’s genetic parents.
“We are devastated and confused”
“Our joy at her birth is complicated by the overwhelming reality that her genetic parents, whom we do not yet know, could have had their child. We are heartbroken, devastated and confused,” the couple added, according to the site People.
Their desire to find the biological father and mother is also due to the fear that the authorities might someday take the child from them and hand it over to the genetic parents. “That would be unbearable,” Tiffany and Steven claim.
The lawsuit also seeks an emergency lawsuit that would compel the clinic to notify all patients, pay for genetic testing, and publish the results of screenings for other cases of embryo swapping.
“After taking legal action, we hope to live more freely and finally celebrate the only beautiful thing that came out of all this: our daughter. Shea is completely innocent and deserves none of this trouble,” added the couple, who also want to find out what happened to their own embryos.
The clinic published a statement on its website that it is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities. However, she later removed the message from the website.
