Fontaines D.C. brought their tour to Los Angeles on Friday night, performing a 19-song set for an enraptured crowd at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The Irish band is currently counting down to the October 16 release of their fifth album, Dopamine Chamber.
The outdoor performance took place among the graves of iconic figures including Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone, Judy Garland, Mel Blanc, and Chris Cornell. As palm trees swayed behind the stage under a nearly full moon, the band delivered a set that drew heavily from their previous albums, Romance and Skinty Fia, while incorporating new material. During the show, the band dedicated the song “It’s Amazing to Be Young” to Hollywood Forever resident David Lynch.
A Blend of New and Familiar Sounds
The concert opened with a set from Rew, who concluded his performance with “Yung & Writhing.” Fontaines D.C. then took the stage, opening with “Boys in the Better Land,” followed by “Here’s the Thing” and “Nabokov.” The band integrated four songs from their upcoming record into the night’s performance, including the newly released track “Marianne.” Attendees also received a preview of two additional unreleased tracks from the album, titled “Tongue” and “Happy For You.”
Atmosphere and Audience Engagement
The audience at the cemetery reflected the band’s growing influence, with fans sporting tour merchandise, DIY shirts, and Romance skirts. The event also highlighted the band’s connection to their community; throughout the set, fans waved Palestinian flags and chanted “Free, Free Palestine.” This Los Angeles show served as one of two underplay dates in the United States, following a similar performance in New York.
