In LuxembourgThe relay house has not served them food for over a month
Several children suffering from food allergies do not have food in the relay house in the commune of Kayl-Tétange.
Children are required to bring their own dishes.
PexelsIn the relay house in the commune of Kayl-Tétange, an 11-year-old boy, allergic to soy, no longer receives anything to eat at midday. This has been happening for more than a month, according to a press release from the Pirates’ political sensitivities. Since then, the child’s parents have been forced to cook meals for him, which he must bring with him. “The parents learned, through indirect channels of communication, that their child was still hungry,” warn the pirates in a press release.
The reason? The relay house supplier refuses to prepare allergen-free dishes. “It refers to questions of responsibility,” the press release specifies. Requested by The essentialsa spokesperson for the municipality confirms the case. “The supplier proposed two solutions. The child could either have eaten a special meal prepared by a subcontractor, or a dish prepared by the parents.
Not an isolated case
On the side of the municipality, we insist on the fact that the decision to use homemade dishes was taken in consultation with “the ministry, the nurses, the Sicona intercommunal union and the parents”. According to the Pirates, this situation is not an isolated case, but a systemic problem. The spokesperson for Kayl-Tétange confirms that several other children in the town must take meals from home, while others “receive other dishes adapted to their allergies”.
She also affirms that the municipality has no problem with this supplier which other municipalities in the country use. For Sven Clement, this situation is unacceptable. “It is not possible to tell parents, who work and pay taxes, to cook for themselves, because the State does not respect its contracts,” he says.
