His family announced this on Instagram. Van der Beek made his colon cancer public two years ago. The actor gained fame primarily through his role in the US series “Dawson’s Creek” in the 1990s. There he played alongside Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes. He had other roles in the films “Varsity Blues” and “The Rules of Attraction”. He also appeared in several episodes of the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother”.
