Valeska Grisebach Casts Yana Radeva in Film

I think life had finished in terms of emotions, Yana Radeva said of the difficult period she experienced before a chance encounter led her to acting, 24chasa.bg reported.

German director Valeska Grisebach cast Radeva in the film “The Dreamed Adventure” after spotting her at a market, bringing the former geologist and casino manager straight to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. The production is set in Svilengrad and follows the return of Said, played by Suleyman Letifov, who becomes entangled in suspicious deals before his sudden disappearance. Radeva plays Veska, an archaeologist and Said’s former lover who uncovers local secrets during excavations.

From Mining Geology to Cannes

Radeva studied at the University of Mining and Geology and worked in the field before entering the gaming industry while on maternity leave. Working in bingo halls helped her overcome her shyness and develop strict discipline, eventually rising to become a manager.

During the film’s 51-day shoot involving roughly 90 crew members, Radeva drew on her scientific background while visiting the National Historical Museum and consulting with professional archaeologists. She wore outfits designed by Anelia Peshev, a Vienna-based Bulgarian designer three times named designer of the year in Austria, during her appearances at Cannes.

During the awards ceremony, Grisebach called Radeva up to the stage alongside her. Radeva tripped in her long-trained gown and was caught from falling by Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal.

At the post-ceremony party, jury president Park Chan-wook approached Radeva, the casting director Margarita Kudrina, and Suleyman Letifov. The South Korean director told her, I have not seen such a film. I have not seen such a female role. You kept me in suspense the whole time.
