Fortis Marinemaster M-44 DLC: A New Level of Durability for a Classic Dive Watch

Fortis has introduced the Marinemaster M-44 DLC, marking the first time the brand’s oldest collection receives a full Dianoir® Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating. This enhancement significantly boosts the watch’s resistance to abrasion, saltwater, and impact, solidifying its position as a professional dive instrument.

A History of Robustness

The Marinemaster name originates from the 1950s, initially signifying Fortis’ highly waterproof watches. Over the decades, the Marinemaster has evolved, representing watches designed for aquatic use, though not always exclusively ultra-focused dive watches. The Marinemaster M-44, first introduced in 2021 alongside the M-40, represents a renewed focus on adventure and exploration, both on land and underwater.

Dianoir® DLC Coating: Enhanced Durability

The Dianoir® DLC coating applied to the Marinemaster M-44 achieves a surface hardness of approximately 4,500 Vickers, roughly twenty times greater than conventional stainless steel. This makes the watch exceptionally resistant to scratches and corrosion, ideal for demanding environments. The case remains 44mm in diameter with a lug-to-lug distance of 48mm.

Models and Aesthetics

The Marinemaster M-44 DLC is available in two editions: Gravity Black and Black Resin. The Gravity Black features uncoated crowns and lateral screws, whereas the Black Resin boasts blackened crowns. Both editions share the collection’s classic black dial with an embossed Fortis “O” pattern and a luminous ring. The Gravity Black model incorporates silver-toned hardware, while the Black Resin opts for gold-colored hands and markers with beige Super-LumiNova.
