Foshan: A Contemporary Waterfront City Rooted in Lingnan Heritage
Foshan, a city in Guangdong Province, China, is undergoing a significant transformation, blending its rich Lingnan heritage with modern urban development. The Design Philosophy: Weaving Tradition with Modernity
The core design strategy centers around the concept of “Weaving,” integrating traditional Lingnan architectural elements with contemporary residential functions and ecological systems. This approach organizes the site along a “One Axis, Five Realms” narrative, creating a seamless and poetic flow between architecture, interior spaces, and the surrounding landscape.
Key Spatial Elements
- The Threshold of Order (Entrance): The entrance features a hotel-style drop-off area and a spacious porch. Geometric deconstruction creates an orderly urban interface, incorporating warm-toned Beijin Beige stone and layered vegetation.
- The Heart of Fluidity (Central Water Courtyard): A minimalist waterscape serves as the emotional center of the site. Custom-designed lounges, crafted from Pandora Luxury Stone, are positioned over cascading waters, offering a tranquil and tactile experience.
- Porosity and Integration (Modern Garden): This space extends the indoor clubhouse, emphasizing visual permeability through the use of Angolan Black stone and glass railings. The design integrates the landscape and built form via a multi-dimensional viewing platform.
- Topography and Sensory Immersion (The Creek &. Infinity Pool): Utilizing the site’s natural elevation changes, the design creates a layered “Forest Stream” effect. An infinity pool blends with the horizon, whereas frangipani and bald cypress trees contribute to a biophilic microclimate for relaxation.
