Free Retail Spaces: UAE Programme Fast-Tracks Small Business Growth
Majid Al Futtaim’s Ma’an programme has received approximately 7,800 registrations from UAE-based small and medium businesses for its first cohort, offering selected participants free pop-up space, brand visibility, and a fully funded support programme. The initiative aims to lower barriers to entry by providing access to premium retail environments, including locations at Mall of the Emirates.
According to Khalifa Bin Braik, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management, the programme’s ambition is to help UAE-based SMEs emerge stronger, more visible, and better positioned for long-term growth. By enabling these businesses to strengthen customer relationships and expand their market presence within a powerful consumer platform, Ma’an can play a meaningful role in supporting the wider SME landscape.
Ma’an, meaning “together” in Arabic, is a fully funded, 360-degree support scheme for select SMEs in the UAE. Participants gain access to pop-up retail space, product placement opportunities, and extensive marketing support across Majid Al Futtaim’s portfolio.
The UAE government continues to prioritize SME development as a key driver of economic diversification and national human resource growth. Support mechanisms include the National SME Programme, the UAE SME Council, Operation 300bn, Khalifa Fund, and Dubai SME, which collectively provide resources for launching and scaling businesses.
In parallel, a state-backed initiative aims to turn 1,000 Emirati families into entrepreneurs over five years, targeting around 200 families annually across four cohorts. Led by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Ministry of Community Empowerment, New Economy Academy, and National CSR Fund (Majra), the programme focuses on economic independence through entrepreneurship, employment, and financial literacy.
These coordinated efforts reflect the UAE’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on state support and foster a more self-sufficient, innovation-driven economy by empowering small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.
