Fresnillo Revives Municipal Baseball Tournament After Decade-Long Hiatus

Fresnillo, Zacatecas – After more than ten years, the Municipal Baseball Tournament has returned to Fresnillo, officially launching with a ceremonial first pitch by Mayor Javier Torres Rodríguez. The tournament features twenty teams and promises a renewed commitment to sports within the municipality.

Commitment to Sports and Infrastructure Improvements

During the inauguration, Mayor Torres Rodríguez emphasized the municipal government’s dedication to supporting sports initiatives. A total of 100,000 pesos will be awarded to the winning teams, along with complete equipment packages.

Beyond the financial investment, the municipality plans to upgrade the Benito Juárez Sports Unit. Improvements will include new lighting and general facility maintenance, aiming to provide a better experience for players and families.

Gratitude and Continued Growth

David Rojas, president of the Tournament, expressed his gratitude to the municipal authorities for their support in bringing the competition to life. He also highlighted the importance of fostering interest in baseball among new generations.

Councilor Baudel Cruz Reyes, president of the Sports Commission and Víctor Bravo Piña, director of the Municipal Sports Institute, also attended the event. The City Council recognized Jesús Nain López and Julio Pérez Raygoza for their contributions to promoting children’s baseball in Fresnillo and surrounding communities.

The tournament includes teams competing in both the first and second force categories. The return of this event signifies a renewed focus on athletic development and community engagement in Fresnillo.
