Sprint Zone: Giorgio Frinolli Discusses Dosso, Simonelli, and the Future of Italian Sprinting

Giorgio Frinolli, a Roman coach and former 400m hurdles specialist, recently appeared on the OA Sport Youtube channel’s Sprint Zone to discuss the preparation of his athletes for major competitions and the current state of Italian sprinting. Frinolli coached Zaynab Dosso and Lorenzo Simonelli at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Zaynab Dosso’s Progress

Frinolli highlighted Dosso’s strong form, noting her self-awareness and ability to compete with anyone. He stated Dosso aims to surpass her previous World Championship results, where she finished third and second in prior editions. Dosso recently achieved a time of 6.99 seconds, a performance that surprised even herself. Frinolli believes this result demonstrates her ability to modulate races with the intention of winning. He also mentioned that Dosso overcame a foot problem during the Nanjing competition, and is now in comparable condition.

Lorenzo Simonelli’s Development

Regarding Lorenzo Simonelli, Frinolli noted that he sometimes struggles to manage his power but is finding his rhythm in recent weeks. He emphasized Simonelli’s strong competitive ability and expressed hope for a calmer and more linear approach to upcoming competitions, allowing him to build competitive energy and perform at the highest levels.

Elisa Di Lazzaro and Alessandro Sibilio

Frinolli also discussed hurdler Elisa Di Lazzaro, expressing that while she didn’t quite reach the 8-second barrier during the indoor season, she has improved her attitude and race preparation, gaining confidence and nearing that goal. He noted a necessitate for improvement in managing close events and recovery between races.

Finally, Frinolli spoke about Alessandro Sibilio, praising his extraordinary talent and achievements, including a silver medal and Italian record at the European Championships in Rome. He highlighted Sibilio’s potential and courage, particularly his willingness to change cities and coaches.
