From Parisian Roots to Pyrenean Fields: The Rise of Quentin Travaillé, the Instagram Naturalist
Quentin Travaillé, a former advertising consultant, has cultivated a thriving online presence as an amateur naturalist, sharing his passion for the natural world with nearly 600,000 followers on Instagram @laviepartout. Based in the Aure valley of the Hautes-Pyrénées, Travaillé’s journey from a childhood fascination with insects to a career dedicated to biodiversity education is a testament to the power of following one’s passions.
A Childhood Dream Rekindled
Growing up in the Paris region, Travaillé’s early interest in the natural world was met with skepticism. “I wanted to study ants. My family looked at me with big eyes and talked to me about pursuing medicine,” he recalls. After a brief stint in medical school, lasting only three months, he transitioned into the professional world of advertising, establishing a social media consulting company. Later, he worked with the production company Golden Mustache.
Finding Inspiration in the Pyrenees
A turning point came during a friend’s wedding in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Renting a room in the Aure valley, Travaillé found himself captivated by the region’s natural beauty. “I’m discovering the Hautes-Pyrénées for a friend’s wedding. I’m renting a room in a third place in the Aure valley, I really like the region,” he shared. This experience sparked a desire to reconnect with nature and pursue a more fulfilling lifestyle.
“Life Everywhere” Takes Root
In 2021, Travaillé launched his Instagram page, “Life everywhere,” dedicated to sharing his knowledge of plants, wildlife, and ecological practices. His content ranges from practical gardening advice – like building a pond or planting raspberries – to explorations of edible plants, hedge species, and the importance of biodiversity. He emphasizes a non-presumptuous approach in his educational videos, explaining concepts without assuming prior knowledge. His garden, filled with aromatic plants like sage, thyme, and lavender, serves as both a source of inspiration and a “studio” for his content creation.
Monetizing Passion and Maintaining Integrity
Travaillé’s online presence has evolved into a sustainable income source. He collaborates with brands and organizations like the French Biodiversity Office and the National Forestry Office, ensuring all partnerships align with his ecological values. He currently has 590,000 subscribers on Instagram. He has too launched a podcast and a newsletter, funded through a participatory prize pool, with the ambition of becoming fully reader-supported. “You can subscribe from 1 euro per month. My dream would be for this newsletter to be 100% financed by readers,” he explains.
Looking Ahead
Quentin Travaillé’s story exemplifies a growing trend of individuals leveraging social media to connect with nature and promote environmental awareness. His success demonstrates the public’s appetite for accessible, engaging content that fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
