Chattahoochee Golf Club to Close for Extensive Renovations This Spring

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The City of Gainesville’s Chattahoochee Golf Club (CGC) will close for comprehensive renovations from March 30th through September, with the driving range and related facilities remaining open to the public. The project aims to modernize aging infrastructure, improve playability, and enhance the course’s aesthetic appeal, ultimately strengthening the overall golfer experience.

Comprehensive Upgrade Plan

City officials opted for a single five-month closure to complete all upgrades at once, rather than a phased approach spanning several years. This decision followed discussions with City leadership, CGC staff, and the CGC Advisory Committee. Director of Golf Rodger Hogan explained that golfers expressed a preference for a temporary hiatus over prolonged, disruptive construction.

“Chattahoochee Golf Club continues to grow in popularity by the day, evidenced by record rounds, and we felt our customers would prefer a five-month hiatus over a five-year period where the golf course is in a constant state of construction,” Hogan said. City of Gainesville

Key Renovation Projects

  • Irrigation System Replacement: A 27-year-old irrigation system will be replaced on most holes, excluding holes 15, 16, and 17, which were updated in 2021. The systems on the putting greens and driving range will also be replaced. WSB-TV
  • Bunker Renovations: Most bunkers on the course will be renovated, with the fairway bunker on hole No. 2 and the back-right bunker on hole No. 4 being removed to create a new chipping area. WSB-TV
  • Fairway Reshaping: Fairways on the 10th, 11th, and 14th holes will be reshaped, and the front-right bunker on hole No. 11 will be removed or repositioned. WSB-TV

Preparing for Future Events

The renovations are also intended to position Chattahoochee Golf Club as a desirable host course for tournaments and championships, including potential NCAA events. Hogan emphasized the importance of a clear schedule for securing these opportunities. “Buckling down to complete these action items sooner rather than later will not only benefit our customers in the long run, but quickly restore the Chattahoochee Golf Club’s position as a desirable host course for tournament and championship play,” Hogan added. Clubhouse and Grill Remain Open

Although the golf course and putting greens will be closed, the driving range, teaching facility, and clubhouse will remain open to the public. The Chattahoochee Grill will maintain regular operations: Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. To 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. To 4 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m. For brunch. The grill is closed on Mondays.

The course is scheduled to reopen in the fall.
