Galaxy S26 Night Mode: How to Acquire It Back
Unpacked your new Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra and found Night mode missing from the camera app? You’re not alone. Samsung has changed how you access dedicated low-light photography features with the latest generation of its flagship phones.
Where Did Night Mode Move?
Unlike previous Galaxy models, the Galaxy S26 series doesn’t feature a dedicated, standalone “Night mode” option in the camera interface. Instead, Samsung has integrated night photography capabilities directly into the default Photo mode through an Auto Night Control toggle.
This toggle, represented by a moon icon, appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen when the camera detects a low-light environment. Tapping the icon reveals three options: Off, Auto, and Max.
How Auto Night Control Works
The functionality of Night mode itself hasn’t changed. In Auto mode, the phone automatically determines the optimal shutter speed based on the scene’s lighting conditions. Max mode allows for slightly longer shutter speeds than Auto, capturing even more light in very dark environments. SammyGuru explains that the system decides whether the scene requires night processing, and in many situations, the icon remains white as the camera believes there is sufficient light.
Bringing Back a Dedicated Night Mode Option
For users who prefer more control over their night photography settings, Samsung offers a solution: the Camera Assistant app. Here’s how to re-enable a dedicated Night mode:
- Install Camera Assistant: Search for “Camera Assistant” in the Galaxy Store and download the app. Alternatively, you can find it within the camera app’s settings. SamMobile provides instructions for downloading the app.
- Enable Night Mode: Open the Camera Assistant app and navigate to the “Additional modes” section. Enable the “Night mode” toggle.
Once enabled, a dedicated Night mode will be accessible from the Modes tab in the camera app. The Auto Night Control toggle will still remain active in Photo mode, and the phone may suggest switching to Night mode when appropriate.
Making the Most of Your Galaxy S26 Camera
The Galaxy S26 series offers a range of advanced camera features designed to enhance your photography experience. Beyond Night mode, explore features like Super Steady for smooth videos and Dual Recording to capture footage from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Samsung Support provides a comprehensive overview of the Galaxy S26 camera features.
Samsung’s shift to an integrated Auto Night Control system aims to simplify the user experience, but the Camera Assistant app provides a valuable option for those who prefer a more traditional approach to low-light photography.
