Managing Symptoms and Building Communities in Galway

The conference program is designed to address a broad spectrum of challenges associated with the central nervous system condition. Sessions will cover brain health and ageing, mental health, cognitive function, nutrition, and the complexities of relationships and sexuality. According to Mary McCusker, National Services Development Coordinator with MS Ireland, the gathering aims to provide high-quality information while offering a crucial space for the community to connect.

Clinical Insights on Brain Health and Cognition

Consultant Neurologist Dr Andrew Lockhart of University Hospital Limerick will lead the keynote session, “The Long Game: Brain Health & Ageing in MS.” Dr Lockhart’s clinical work and research focus on progressive MS and the mechanisms of nerve cell loss. Following this, the conference will address cognitive health through a session titled “Targeting Cognition to Improve Daily Life,” presented by Dr Sinéad Hynes, Associate Professor and Head of Discipline of Occupational Therapy at the University of Galway, and occupational therapist Hannah Bergin.
