Daiquan McClinton Sentenced to 46 Months for Firearm Possession After High-Speed Chase
Daiquan McClinton, 25, of Gary, Indiana, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison followed by one year of supervised release after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred announced. United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund handed down the sentence.
According to court documents, the case stems from an incident on March 28, 2024, when McClinton fled from a traffic stop and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Gary, Indiana. During the pursuit, McClinton threw a loaded AK-47 style pistol equipped with a high-capacity magazine out of his vehicle window.
Prior Federal Supervised Release and Criminal History
At the time of the March 2024 pursuit, McClinton was already serving a term of federal supervised release. The previous year, he had been convicted in the Northern District of Indiana of unlawful possession of an unregistered machine gun, which is a federal felony.

Federal prosecutors emphasized that McClinton was fully aware of legal prohibitions regarding firearm possession given his prior conviction. Instead of complying with the law, he armed himself with a weapon and endangered the public during the vehicle pursuit, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney.
Law Enforcement Statements on Community Safety
“Daiquan McClinton has repeatedly demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the law and a complete indifference to the safety of our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Mildred. “This sentence sends an unequivocal message: if you illegally possess firearms, violate the terms of your federal supervision, and endanger the public to evade arrest, you will be held fully accountable.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives alongside the Lake County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Kristian R. Mukoski prosecuted the matter.
Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative Context
The prosecution was conducted under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide Department of Justice initiative designed to bring together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and prosecutors to combat violent crime. Coordinated across all 94 federal judicial districts, PSN focuses on rapid federal responses to violent offenders and strategic partnerships among law enforcement agencies. These efforts also complement President Trump’s Homeland Security Task Forces aimed at addressing pressing public safety challenges.
