GeForce NOW Expands to Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Offering PC Gaming on the Considerable Screen

NVIDIA is bringing its GeForce NOW game streaming service to Amazon Fire TV Sticks and select TVs, marking a significant expansion for the platform and offering PC-quality gaming to a wider audience. This launch coincides with the six-year anniversary of GeForce NOW, solidifying its position as a leading cloud gaming provider.

Expanding Accessibility with Fire TV

The GeForce NOW app is now compatible with the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2nd Gen) running Fire OS 8.1.6.0 and later, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) with Fire OS 8.1.6.0 and later, and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) with Fire OS 7.7.1.1 and later. Users simply demand to connect a controller, open the app, and begin streaming games. PCMag reports this expansion aims to deliver “PC-quality performance” on larger screens.

Performance and Limitations

Currently, GeForce NOW on Fire TV Sticks is limited to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, utilizing H.264 video encoding and stereo audio. HDR support is not available at this time. These specifications align with the features offered in the free, ad-supported GeForce NOW tier, which includes one-hour gaming sessions and does not prioritize queue access. PCMag details these limitations.

Game Library and Subscription Options

Despite the limitations of the free tier, Fire TV gamers gain access to a library of over 4,500 games. Recent additions include Torment: Tides of Numenera, retro titles like Mega Man 11 and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, and Kingdom Arrive: Deliverance. The GeForce NOW library draws games from popular stores such as Steam, Xbox (including PC Game Pass titles), the Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, and GOG.com. Reddit users have been discussing the benefits of sideloading Android apps to enhance the experience.

Paid GeForce NOW subscriptions start at $9.99 per month, offering benefits such as priority access, longer gaming sessions, and potentially higher visual fidelity in the future.

Community Engagement and Events

NVIDIA is fostering a community around GeForce NOW with ongoing events and giveaways. A recent giveaway hosted on the GeForce NOW Reddit offered prizes, including an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. Gamers can also connect with fellow players on the GeForce NOW Discord server.
