Gen.G and Dplus KIA Secure 2026 Worlds Playoff Spots
Gen.G and Dplus KIA became the first teams to secure 2026 League of Legends World Championship knockout stage berths on October 26, 2026, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Both LCK representatives advanced to the quarterfinals with 3-0 records in the Swiss stage without needing to play further matches.
Dplus KIA Sweeps MKOI Behind First Tournament Penta-Kill
Dplus KIA entered the Swiss stage as the LCK’s 4th seed and punched its ticket first by defeating MKOI 2-0 in a best-of-three series. Game one saw heavy top-side pressure from Choi “Lucid” Yong-hyuk on Lee Sin and Jeon “Siwoo” Si-woo on Ornn, establishing early control over objectives. MKOI fought back in the mid-game through coordinated utility from a Trundle and Anivia wall setup paired with Jayce and Ezreal’s backline damage.
The decisive moment arrived during a late-game team fight when Oh “Career” Hyeong-seok engaged forward on Nautilus. That movement opened a path for Shin “Smash” Geum-jae to dive deep into the enemy backline on Kaisa, eliminating all five MKOI champions to secure the tournament’s first penta-kill. Dplus KIA immediately pushed down the mid lane to destroy the nexus in 39 minutes and 24 seconds. Game two lasted roughly 25 minutes after an early bot-lane advantage translated into a clean sweep of map objectives.
Gen.G Bounces Back Against LYON to Advance
Gen.G followed Dplus KIA into the quarterfinals by defeating LYON 2-1 after dropping the opening game. LYON capitalized on early objective control, taking both dragons and heralds to pressure Kim “Kiin” Gi-in and his teammates. LYON secured a 35-minute victory in the first match after claiming the baron and denying Gen.G the dragon soul.
Gen.G responded in game two by securing early leads through ultimate ability combinations. The Korean top seed captured the baron and cloud dragon soul before destroying LYON’s nexus in 26 minutes to tie the series. The 2-1 final score sealed Gen.G’s 3-0 Swiss stage progression, adding to prior victories over Invictus Gaming and Hanwha Life Esports.
