GERB-SDS Expresses Concerns Over Caretaker Government’s Conduct, Calls for National Security Council Meeting
The GERB-SDS party has voiced strong concerns regarding the actions of the current caretaker government, alleging a consistent disregard for the National Assembly. Denitsa Sacheva, deputy chairperson of the GERB-SDS parliamentary group, criticized the government’s refusal to participate in parliamentary hearings and oversight processes.
Caretaker Government’s Lack of Transparency
Sacheva specifically pointed to the “Gyurov” cabinet’s behavior, stating that their actions do not inspire confidence. “Refusal to participate in hearings, refusal to participate in parliamentary control,” Sacheva commented, highlighting the perceived lack of transparency.
Call for National Security Council Meeting
Amidst the current geopolitical climate, particularly the situation in the Middle East, Sacheva emphasized the need for cooperation between institutions. She urged President Iliyana Yotova to convene an Advisory Council on National Security, including representatives from all parliamentary groups. “Until this moment, everything demonstrated by the official government does not grant us the opportunity to feel calm, if all decisions are made alone, by Mr. Gyurov,” Sacheva added.
GERB-SDS Position on Government Formation
In separate statements, Denitsa Sacheva has reiterated GERB-SDS’s position against supporting a second or third mandate for government formation. GERB-SDS is willing to engage in talks with We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (WCC-DB), but will not provide support for a subsequent mandate. Sacheva has also expressed skepticism about the ability of smaller parliamentary groups to dictate the national agenda.
Pension Reform Postponement
Recently, GERB-SDS joined BSP, Vazrazhdane, and DPS in postponing pension reform, with 129 MPs voting in favor, 28 against, and six abstaining.
Concerns Over Political Rhetoric
Sacheva also expressed concern over the apply of divisive language in politics, stating that GERB-SDS does not support political entities that build their identity on hatred and dislike of other parties. She believes a reassessment of political behavior is necessary to overcome the current crisis.
