Ghent to Pilot Vehicle-to-grid Technology at New Charging Plaza

Ghent, Belgium, is set to explore teh potential of electric vehicles (EVs) to stabilize the power grid during peak demand thru a groundbreaking pilot program.The city plans to establish a charging plaza capable of not only replenishing EV batteries but also allowing them to feed energy back into the grid – a process known as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

This initiative, reported by The Nieuwsblad and confirmed by VRT NWS, aims to address future electricity supply challenges. City officials believe that harnessing the energy storage capacity of EVs is crucial for maintaining a reliable power supply as reliance on renewable energy sources grows.

During periods of high electricity demand,the system will draw power from connected EVs,providing a supplemental energy source to the grid. When demand is low, EVs will charge as usual.
