Giants Sign Outfielder Will Brennan to One-Year MLB Contract
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The San Francisco Giants have added outfielder Will Brennan to their roster, announcing a one-year Major League deal on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Brennan, a left-handed hitter, spent the previous four seasons with the Cleveland Guardians. MLB.com reported the signing as the Giants began their first full-squad workout at Scottsdale Stadium.
Transaction Details
To create a roster spot for Brennan, the Giants transferred right-hander Rowan Wick to the 60-day injured list. MLB.com and ESPN both confirmed the move. Brennan’s contract is guaranteed at $400,000, with the potential to earn $900,000 while on the major league roster and $400,000 in the minors. ESPN
Brennan’s Background and Recovery
The 28-year-old Brennan appeared in 114 games for Cleveland in 2024, batting .264 with a .697 OPS and eight home runs. However, his 2025 season was cut short due to injuries. He underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in June and followed that with sports hernia surgery in September to address a groin issue. MLB.com reports that Brennan is expected to be “full go” for Spring Training.
Giants’ Perspective
Giants General Manager Zack Minasian expressed the team’s enthusiasm for adding Brennan. “We’ve liked him for some time,” Minasian said. “Plays the game really hard, gritty, grindy type. Controls the strike zone. Moves around the outfield, mostly the corner outfield spots. A left-handed hitter.” MLB.com Manager Tony Vitello and bench coach Jayce Tingler were also familiar with Brennan, contributing to the positive reports on his character.
Competition for a Roster Spot
The Giants currently have Heliot Ramos, Harrison Bader, and Jung Hoo Lee slated to start in the outfield. Brennan will compete with Drew Gilbert, Jerar Encarnación, Luis Matos, and non-roster invitee Jared Oliva for a reserve role this spring. MLB.com Both Brennan and Gilbert have Minor League options, while Encarnación and Matos do not.
Rowan Wick’s Injury
Right-hander Rowan Wick, who signed a one-year contract with a club option for 2027 on Friday, is expected to miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in November. MLB.com
