Global Terrorism Toll and Civil Unrest Shift in Late 2026

Pakistan recorded the highest number of terrorism deaths globally in the third quarter of 2026, accounting for 246 fatalities across 97 attacks, or 34.4 percent of the worldwide total. The data comes from the latest figures released through the Global Peace Index tracker, covering incidents up to September 2026.

Security forces in Pakistan faced an escalation of violence from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Meanwhile, the Sahel region remained a major global center for terrorist activity, with Niger, Nigeria, and Mali recording 125, 89, and 85 deaths respectively.

Deadly Ambushes and Regional Conflicts

The deadliest single attack of the quarter occurred on July 18, when a Malian army convoy was ambushed near Tabankort in the Gao region, leaving 50 people dead. In the Middle East, Syria recorded 64 terrorism deaths, marking a more than threefold increase compared to its total from the previous quarter.
