Amazon’s ‘God of War’ Series: First Look at Kratos and Atreus
Production is officially underway for Amazon’s live-action adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game franchise, God of War. The streaming giant has released the first image of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as his son, Atreus, offering fans a glimpse of the father-son duo.
First Look at the Iconic Pair
The image, released on February 27, 2026, showcases Hurst and Vinson in character, hinting at the dynamic between the god of war and his evolving son IGN. Fans have noted that Vinson’s portrayal of Atreus appears to be a younger interpretation of the character compared to his video game counterpart.
Storyline and Cast
The series will follow Kratos and Atreus as they journey to scatter the ashes of Faye, Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother. The storyline explores the complex relationship between father and son, with Kratos attempting to instill the ways of a god in Atreus, while Atreus seeks to humanize his stoic father Amazon MGM Studios.
Joining Hurst and Vinson is a stellar cast including Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok Deadline.
Production Details
The God of War series, co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions, has received a two-season order. Ronald D. Moore (known for Battlestar Galactica and Outlander) serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer Gizmodo.
Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Additional executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
