Prime Video’s ‘God of War’ Series: Cast, Story, and Production Details
The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of PlayStation’s hit video game God of War is currently in production for Prime Video. Led by Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus, the series boasts a stellar cast and is helmed by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Production began in February 2026, and the series has already received a two-season order.
The Storyline
The God of War series will follow the storyline of the recent games, 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok. The narrative centers on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventures, Kratos aims to guide his son towards becoming a better god, while Atreus seeks to help his father embrace his humanity.
The Cast
- Ryan Hurst as Kratos: Known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead, Hurst previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok.
- Callum Vinson as Atreus: Vinson is also known for voicing Piglet in multiple Winnie the Pooh TV shows and will appear in the upcoming Crystal Lake TV series.
- Mandy Patinkin as Odin: The veteran actor, famous for roles in Homeland and The Princess Bride, joins the cast as Odin.
- Ed Skrein as Baldur: Skrein, known for his work in Deadpool and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will portray Baldur.
- Max Parker as Heimdall: Parker, recognized for his role in Emmerdale Farm, will play Heimdall.
- Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor: Ólafsson, recently seen in Severance, will grab on the role of Thor.
- Teresa Palmer as Sif: Palmer, known for her roles in Warm Bodies and The Fall Guy, will play Phoebe/Sif.
- Alastair Duncan as Mimir: Duncan reprises his role as Mimir from the video games.
- Jeff Gulka as Sindri: Gulka, known for his work on The X-Files and Stargate SG-1, will play Sindri.
- Danny Woodburn as Brok: Woodburn, recognized from The Witcher and Seinfeld, will portray Brok.
- Louis Cunningham as Modi: Cunningham, known for his role on Marie Antoinette, will play Modi as a series regular.
- Ben Chapple as Magni: Chapple will play Magni in a recurring role.

Production Details
The series is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E.O. Toye (The Boys, Fallout) is directing the first two episodes. Filming is underway in Vancouver.
Prime Video is also developing other video game adaptations, including a live-action Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner and a Life is Strange TV series, alongside the popular Fallout series.
